We are a small organic farm situated in the north of the vienne in delightful rolling countryside, we have a flock of Romane sheep which we feed a 100% organic diet. They graze contentedly the multi-species Organic pastures and hay. Our aim here is to recreate what we call medieval meadows by resowing on a regular basis lots of herbs and wildflowers with a high density of clovers and multi variety grass species. The idea is to present a broad a spectrum of grazing as possible. Sheep have an ability to seek out plants they feel they need to remedy a malaise they may have , if that plant is available. As weather conditions get harsher and when appropriate we top up their diet with organic barley, oats and peas. We believe that it’s the diversity of the natural Organic diet that our lamb enjoys, that makes it taste so good.
We use alternative medicines as first choice; homoeopathy, herbal remedies etc. The routine use of antibiotics in organic farming is prohibited.
Our flock is based on the remarkable Romane sheep with its roots in France, Russia and Iceland. Many believe that the meat’s amazing gourmet qualities come from the Romanov genes, which are part of the "northern short-tailed" group of sheep (also includes Finn, Shetland, and Icelandic sheep).
The spring of 2009 will see us diversifying into a small herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle to complement the sheep flock and in addition we will be introducing pigs into the woodland behind the farm to complete our range of organic livestock.
