Our flock is based on the remarkable Romane sheep, a cross between the Romanov and Berichon du cher breeds. They are fantastic mothers, producing lots of high quality milk. They are also tough and hardy, (they withstood the tremendous heat wave we had here 4 years ago with daily temperatures of over 105 degrees for 2 weeks!) Plus they are very unusual in being able to lamb at almost any time of the year. This means, for example, that we can supply lamb organically all year round if we need to, without resorting to the use of artificial hormone therapy and insemination (which of course is prohibited in organic farming).
Our flock includes Berrichon du Cher rams, which produce lambs with a good meaty carcase, and we have a pure Romane ram to ensure the renewal of our own breeding stock.
